American Association of Nurse Practitioners Foundation - The AANP Foundation awards scholarships to NP students . These scholarships have been sponsored by different organizations, and the Foundation make these awards twice a year. Check their site in February for an application; deadline for 1st grant cycle will be in April.

 

The American Indian Endowed Scholarship - This program annually provides 15 students scholarships ranging from about $500 to $2,000. Students are eligible to receive scholarships for up to five years. Applicants must be financially needy students, with close cultural ties to an American Indian tribe, and who will be enrolled full-time at a public or independent college or university in Washington by the fall term. For more information contact the Washington Higher Education Coordinating Board at aies@hecb.wa.gov.

 

Best Buy Scholarships - More than 1,500 graduating high school seniors will be selected to receive a scholarship for $1,000, $2,000 or $25,000. Scholarship recipients will be chosen based on community service and academic achievement and must be entering an accredited U.S. university, college or technical school in the fall immediately following their high school graduation.

 

Career Advancement Scholarship Program - The Business and Professional Women's Foundation established the Career Advancement Scholarship Program in 1969 to provide financial assistance to disadvantaged women seeking to further their education. Scholarships are provided to women who wish to advance in their careers, or are soon to enter or re-enter the workforce.

 

The Audria M. Edwards Scholarship Fund - The scholarship is available to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community and/or the children of gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender persons who reside in Oregon and/or Southwest Washington. Applicants must be pursuing their education through the post-secondary level and require financial assistance to that end.

 

Emergency Nurses Association Foundation - The mission of the ENA Foundation is to enhance emergency healthcare services to the public through the promotion and support of research and education in emergency care. In 2005 the foundation awarded 10 undergraduate scholarships ranging between $2000-$5000.

 

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation - The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation seeks nominations for the Gates Millennium Scholars Program for low-income students of color. The deadline for submission of nomination materials is January 13, 2006, 11:59 pm EST. The Greater Seattle Business Association - The GSBA Scholarship Program has awarded 190 scholarships totaling more than $445,000 since its inception. Scholarships are awarded to undergraduate residents of Washington who demonstrate need and potential leadership for the LGBT community. The program awards scholarships from the GSBA Community Scholarship Fund and from the Richard C. Rolfs Scholarship Fund.

 

Harvard University Financial Aid Incentive - If you know of a family earning less than $40,000 a year with an honor student graduating from high school soon, Harvard University wants to pay the tuition. The prestigious university recently announced that from now on undergraduate students from low-income families can go to Harvard for free...no tuition and no student loans! Hispanic Scholarship Fund - HSF provides scholarships based on merit, with consideration of financial need, to Hispanic Americans of all races and ethnicities. National scholarships are awarded to high school seniors going to college; a second scholarship is given out to community college, four-year college, and graduate students of Hispanic heritage. Applicants  must be enrolled full-time in a degree-seeking program at a U.S. accredited institution.

 

HRSA Bureau of Health Professions Nursing Scholarship Program - In exchange for at least two years service at a health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses, the Nursing Scholarship Program pays tuition, required fees, other reasonable costs (including required books, clinical supplies, lab expenses) and a monthly stipend. Preference is given to qualified applicants with the greatest financial need who are enrolled full-time in an undergraduate nursing program. The application will be available on the HRSA website on April 17, 2006.

 

King County Nurses Association Scholarships - Ten scholarships of $1,500 each will be awarded in the spring of 2006 for the 2006-07 academic year. Criteria include current enrollment in a nursing program in the state of Washington and King County residence (permanent or for school reasons). March of Dimes Graduate Nursing Scholarships - To recognize and promote excellence in nursing care of mothers and babies, the March of Dimes offers several $5,000 scholarships annually to registered nurses enrolled in graduate programs of maternal-child nursing. In addition to being a registered nurse and being enrolled in a graduate program in maternal-child nursing at the master's or doctoral level, the applicant must have at least one academic term to complete after May of the year in which the scholarship is awarded, and must be a member of at least one of the following professional organizations: the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses; the American College of Nurse-Midwives; or the National Association of Neonatal Nurses. 2006 scholarships are supported in part by an educational grant from Pampers®.

 

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Fund - The goal of this scholarship has always been to help deserving students achieve the dream of a higher education.  The fund seeks out and gives highest consideration to young people who show financial need, have overcome obstacles, have worked to improve their community, and might be overlooked by other, more traditional scholarships. Students must reside in the Mount Baker neighborhood of Seattle (zip codes 98104, 98108, 98118, 98122, 98134, 98144) and must be a member of a racial or ethnic group that is underrepresented in higher education.

 

Edmund F. Maxwell Foundation - For students who plan to attend accredited independent colleges or universities and who are bona fide residents of Western Washington.

 

Mercedes-Benz USA - MBUSA will make $1 million in scholarship funding available to students who are the first in their families to attend college. The Drive Your Future Scholarship Program will grant $2,000 one-time scholarships to 500 high school seniors across the country who demonstrate financial need and exceptional achievement in the areas of academic performance, leadership and school and community activities.

 

National Black Nurses Association Scholarships - The NBNA offers various scholarships each year ranging from $500 - $2000. Candidats must be currently enrolled in a nursing program, be a member of the NBNA and a member of a local chapter, and have at least one full year of school remaining. Applications must be postmarked by April 15th. Go to the NBNA website to download an application.

 

National Institute of Health - Undergraduate Scholarship Program. For each full or partial scholarship year, you are committed to two NIH service obligations.

 

Foundation of the National Student Nurses' Association - Scholarships for enrolled nursing students. The FNSNA has awarded approximately $100,000 annually - through the Frances Tompkins Scholarship Program - to nursing and pre-nursing students who meet the eligibility requirements.

 

PacifiCare Foundation - The PacifiCare Latino Health Scholars Program makes $2,000 scholarships available for Spanish-speaking, bicultural high-school students who want to pursue careers in the healthcare industry. PacifiCare has expanded the program to include two PacifiCare Freedom Awards in the amount of $25,000 each for the two most deserving and qualified applicants The PacifiCare Foundation is the philanthropic arm of PacifiCare Health Systems, Inc. Pride Foundation - Pride Foundation's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and allied scholarship program is one of the largest of its kind in the country. Pride partners with the Greater Seattle Business Association (GSBA), to administer and award scholarships - over $1.2 million to over 500 recipients since 1990. There are 40 different types of scholarships available, but students only need to fill out one application; a scholarship review committee will determine all the scholarships for which the applicant is eligible. Promise of Nursing Regional Scholarship Program - the National Student Nurses' Association administers this scholarship, sponsored by Johnson & Johnson. The Promise of Nursing scholarships will be available in Washington state for 2006 - applications are online now and are due by January 13. The scholarships are renewable and pay up to 75% of tuition. Students must be accepted into a nursing program to be eligible.

 

Talbot's Women's Scholarship Fund - National clothing retailer Talbots has announced the availability of applications for the 2005 Talbots Women's Scholarship Fund. This $100,000 scholarship program annually awards five $10,000 scholarships and fifty $1,000 scholarships to women seeking a bachelor's or associate's degree later in life. Visit Talbot's website to download the application, which is due January 3, 2005, and see if you know someone who's eligible.

 

Tylenol Brand Scholarship Fund - Tylenol will award 10 scholarships worth $10,000 and 150 scholarships worth $1,000 to students nationally. Applicants must be undergraduate and graduate students or high school seniors who demonstrate leadership in community and school activities, and who intend to major in areas that will lead to careers in health-related fields. The winners must be enrolled at a accredited two or four-year colleges, universities or vocational schools in the Fall 2006.

 

Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle - The Edwin T. Pratt Memorial Scholarship is awarded to African-American residents of King County with their high school diplomas or GEDs. Based on financial need, the award is given to students who would otherwise be unable to continue their educational goals. Must be enrolled in a vocational, two or four-year college in state and must have at least a 2.5 GPA. Amount of award based on tuition (cannot exceed ¾ of University of WA tuition).

 

VA Puget Sound - The VALOR Scholarship is a a nursing residency at VA Puget Sound Health Care System. Students will work 400 consecutive hours at VA Puget Sound during the summer between their junior and senior years, with some additional hours during their senior year. Students must also commit to working with the DVA for up to three years. In return students will be paid at 80% salary for an Entry Grade Nurse, will earn vacation time, and will receive tuition support during their senior year for up to $10,000. Requires a completed federal employment form.

 

Washington Award for Vocational Excellence (WAVE) - Honors three vocational students from each of the 49 state legislative districts for outstanding achievement in vocational/technical education. Washington Dental Service Foundation Dental Team Scholarship Program - The Washington Dental Service Foundation is offering scholarships for underrepresented minority students who are interested in careers as dental hygienists, dental assistants and laboratory technicians. All applications must be received by an eligible school prior to starting a Dental team program and no later than October 1. For more information check out the Foundation's website.

 

WA State Educational Opportunity Grant Program - Provides $2,500 annual grants to encourage financially needy, placebound students to complete a bachelor’s degree. For more information contact the Higher Education Coordinating Board at eog@hecb.wa.gov.

 

Washington State Health Professional Loan Repayment and Scholarship - Loan repayment and assistance to licensed primary care health professionals and scholarships to students training to become primary care health professionals. In return, participants in both programs agree to provide primary care health service in rural or underserved urban areas with designated shortages. WA State Need Grant - Helps the state’s lowest-income undergraduate students pursue degrees, hone their skills, or retrain for new careers. Awards are between $652-4,650. You will automatically be considered for a State Need Grant when you file a FAFSA. Contact the Higher Education Coordinating Board at finaid@hecb.wa.gov for more information.

 

Washington State Nurses Foundation - Through its foundation, the Washington State Nurses Association grants a minimum of four $1000 scholarships a year. Applicants must be enrolled in an RN program and have completed at least 12-15 nursing credits. Go to the WSNA website for more information.

Student Aid Report - A Student Aid Report (SAR) is a document you will receive after your FAFSA is processed. Your SAR will list all of the answers you provided on your FAFSA. You should review these answers carefully to make sure they are correct. Your SAR also will contain your expected family contribution, which measures your family’s financial strength and is used to determine your eligibility for federal student aid during one school year.
